The Imo State University (IMSU) Students from the Faculty of Engineering have emerged as national best after beating 80 students from 40 Universities in a national competition.
This was announced on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, during a presentation visit which took place in the Vice-Chancellor's office, led by the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Professor A. U. Iwuoha, in company of two lecturers from the Faculty, Engineer Daniel Isiohia, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineer Happiness Emeribe, Students Project Coordinator, as well as the students.
According to the Dean, the Award-winning Students participated in the Renewable Energy Competition hosted by the Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF) in collaboration with Jacob Ladder African (JLA), which took place in the last quarter of 2024.
He stated that the 40 Universities across Nigeria that participated in the competition include, LASU, UNILAG, FUTMINNA, OAU, UNICAL, KWASU, and UNIILORIN amongst others that made it to the Last stage.
Speaking further, Professor Iwuoha said that the competition passed through different stages, and the last stage had 11 Universities. After the Presentations, IMSU Students came FIRST.
In his reaction, The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uchefula U. Chukwumaeze, SAN, FCArb, stated, "In all sincerity, I am proud of the IMSU Faculty of Engineering. I was not even the Vice-Chancellor of this University when I told my son to go and read Engineering in this school because I have seen the quality of lecturers there".
Speaking further, he said, "It is not how big, but how well". The team of lecturers in the Faculty of Engineering of this school are doing very well and have continued to show commitment in all aspects. I am pleased with the team. He also expressed his pleasure with the students for making the university proud.
He congratulated the students for their successful outing and urged them to keep the flag flying. He also advised them to avoid any form of Social Vices so that the devil would not destroy God's given talents in them.
