Miss Nzeocha Gift Omoga of Insurance and Actuarial Science Department of Imo State University (IMSU) has emerged as the second-best, out of over one thausand (1000) participants, at the 2023 Tertiary Institutions' essay competition, organized by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance PLC.
The result was announced on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the award ceremony, which took place at Ikeja, in Lagos State, and was followed by presentation of gifts to the top three finalists.
The essay competition was for students from 300 level/HND 1 and above of all tertiary institutions (Universities and Polytechnics) in Nigeria, studying Insurance business, with the topic: "Continuous Devaluation of Naira and the Resultant Rate of Inflation-Effect on Insurance Business in Nigeria".
According to Consolidated Hallmark Insurance PLC (the organizers), the essay competition was in line with it's Corporate Social Responsibility Policy of encouraging research, especially, in the study of Insurance at tertiary level.
The winner was presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uchefula U. Chukwumaeze, SAN, FCArb, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, by the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Mike Ndugbu, in Company of the Head, Department of Insurance and Actuarial Sciences, Professor Maxwell Azugama, and were received in the Vice-Chancellor's office.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed delight over the cheering news and stated that Imo State University students remain stars and always stand out wherever they find themselves.
He revealed that in this year (2024) alone, many students from different faculties and departments have written their names and that of the university in gold, with numerous awards from different types of competition, at both the national and regional levels. He, therefore, thanked the winner for making the university proud and congratulated her for the successful outing.
Earlier in his speech, Professor Ndugbu hinted that Miss Nzeocha passed through his tutelage and described her as a very intelligent student. On his part, the Head, Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science, Professor Maxwell Azugama, described the winner as a very brilliant student who refused to be discouraged by her poor background.
The price winner, Miss Nzeocha Gift Omoga, however, advised the youth to take their studies seriously. "Don't miss any opportunity, because you may not know where your favour lies," she added.
