Her Excellency, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, the First Lady of Imo State and National Secretary of Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has kicked off Huawei Women in Tech Digital Skill Training for the South East region.
The well-attended event took place on Thursday, July 25th, 2024, at Imo State University, Owerri.
In her speech, the Imo State First Lady informed her audience that Imo State University Vice-Chancellor was her Lecturer and not just her Lecturer, but he was very kind to her and all her course mates. She explained that Huawei Women in Tech Digital Skill Training is in collaboration with RHI, by office of Nigeria's First Lady, and the initiative was spearheaded by the First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, National Chairman of Renewed Hope Initiative, which signifies a profound commitment and empowerment, and upliftment of women, across Nigeria.
Barr. Chioma described Huawei as one of the world's leading technological companies, adding that the collaboration between Huawei and Renewed Hope Initiative is a testament to the power of Public/Private partnership in driving positive change.
Speaking further, the RHI National Secretary said that the Huawei/RHI women training programme is a bold initiative that acknowledges the immense potentials that lie in our women and girls, by providing them with cutting edge mentorship and training, which will enable them to take up leadership roles, create innovative solutions and drive economic goals.
The Imo State Governor's wife however, thanked the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for her commitment to empowering women and girls, and equally thanked the women and girls who were participating in the training programme for their courage, determination, and passion.
In his goodwill message, the Imo State University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uchefula U. Chukwumaeze, SAN, FCArb, thanked the First Lady of Imo State, the Renewed Hope Initiative, and the Huawei for the Programme. He revealed that the Imo State First Lady is a product of the Imo State University Law Faculty, adding that the University Community is very proud of her.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria hinted that he has been dreaming of a day her Excellency will visit her Alma Mata, but today, that dream has come true. He added that the Imo State Governor's wife has always been there for Imo State University in many areas, including offering scholarships to many female students of the university. The Vice-Chancellor described her as a very kind person, noting that what Her Excellency has done for the University, many former students combined have not done half of it.
Speaking further, Professor Chukwumaeze thanked the Her Excellency and the organizers of the training for giving the South East region the opportunity to join the fast-moving world in the area of technology. He stressed the need for women to be involved in all facets of human existence and encouraged the women and girls not to see the gathering as political but as a direct opportunity to acquire knowledge.
The Imo State First Lady's Entourage included, Wife of the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly and Wives of other Honorable Members of the Imo State House of Assembly, Wife of the Secretary to Imo State Government, Wife of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Honourable Commissioner for Women affairs, Other Commissioners and Government Appointees, the Wife of Imo State APC Chairman, the APC Women leader and other Women leaders, Wife of the ALGON Chairman and Wives of the Local Government Sole Administrators, among other dignitaries from all walks of life.
